Kathleen Shelton
Second-Year Team Member: SaveFirst Coordinator
Kathleen Shelton, a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, graduated summa cum laude and No. 1 in her class with an interdisciplinary degree in philosophy, politics, and economics from Birmingham-Southern College. She attended the college as a National Merit Scholar. While at BSC, Kathleen worked as the editor-in-chief of The Compass, a student journal on leadership and service, coordinated a tutoring program at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School through BSC’s Bunting Center, and served as President of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. As the recipient of a Hess Fellowship, she spent a summer working for Vital Voices Global Partnership in Washington D.C. In BSC’s inaugural Stump Entrepreneurial Challenge, Kathleen was awarded second place for her proposal for a student-developed microcredit initiative that would raise funds and make small loans to residents of low-income neighborhoods in Birmingham. She was also the recipient of the Robert Hewlin Jackson Meritorious Scholarship Award for maintaining the highest GPA in the graduating class. After working with Impact, Kathleen plans to pursue a career in law and/or economic development.
