Robert L. Beeman, II

Board Member

Graduating summa cum laude from East Carolina University, Mr. Beeman was not only the valedictorian but also the captain of the football team and a three time letter recipient. In 1991, Mr. Beeman was the Texasgulf Male Scholar Athlete of the Year and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity’s Collegiate Man of the Year. Immediately after graduation, Mr. Beeman pursued a law degree from Harvard University, where he was the editor of the BlackLetter Law Review and graduated in 1994. After law school, Mr. Beeman served as a clerk for Judge Ira DeMent and later as an associate attorney at Lehr Middlebrooks, et. al. Currently, Mr. Beeman is an attorney for the Protective Life Corporation, a youth minister at Woodland Park Church of Christ, a law professor at the Birmingham School of Law, and a volunteer football coach at Gresham middle School. Mr. Beeman also serves on the Boards of the following organizations: the Ledonia S. Wright Cultural Center, the AG Gaston Boys and Girls Club, and the Non-profit Resource Center of Alabama. He also sits on the steering committee for Project Corporate Leadership.

Stephen Black

Board Member

Stephen Black studied American history at The University of Pennsylvania, where he completed his bachelors degree magna cum laude in 1993, before attending Yale Law School where he graduated in 1997. Following law school, Black moved to Birmingham to become involved in public affairs and to practice law at the firm Maynard, Cooper and Gale. After three years in private practice, he spent a year serving as an assistant to the Governor, where he researched policy issues and worked on economic development projects. After leaving the Governor’s office in 2001, he returned to Maynard, Cooper and Gale and began his campaign for Alabama State Treasurer. After coming up 3% short of victory in the 2002 general election, Stephen returned to practice law. In 2004, he created Impact: An Alabama Student Service Initiative - the state’s first nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and implementing substantive service-learning projects in coordination with universities and junior colleges throughout the state. In June 2005, Black was appointed to the UA faculty as a Senior Lecturer in Communicative Ethics and asked to create and then direct a new Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility.

Emily Gary Branum

Emily is a partner at the firm Balch & Bingham LLP where she specializes in corporate and intellectual property law. She completed her bachelor's of business administration at Baylor University in 1999 before attending law school at the University of Richmond where she was a member of the Richmond Law Review. Emily is a member of the Junior League of Birmingham, Symphony 30, Birmingham Ballet Guild, the Small Business Council of the Birmingham Business Alliance, the PARCA Roundtable of the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama and serves as president of her neighborhood garden club. Emily was the recipient of the Junior League of Birmingham's 2011 Women to Watch award. Emily is married to Joel Branum and spends her free time chasing her two children, Henry and Ruth.

Bryan Council

Board Member

Bryan Council is cofounder and President of Metro Monitor, a Birmingham based TV News, Online News, and Social Media monitoring corporation. Since joining Metro Monitor, Bryan has expanded the services the company provides and has grown the company’s client base to include clients throughout the United States. Bryan also serves as President of the International Association of Broadcast Monitors. Prior to joining Metro Monitor, Bryan worked with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and the Federal Reserve Bank. He holds a B.S. in Business Management from Birmingham-Southern College and an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is an Eagle Scout and a graduate of the 2011-2012 class of Leadership Birmingham. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham, the Birmingham Venture Club, and the Public Relations Society of America. Bryan also serves as a member of the Friends of WBHM Community Advisory Board.

Noelle Fleming

Board Member

Noelle Fleming serves as Privacy Officer for Healthfirst, a managed care organization, in New York City. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1994. Upon graduation, she relocated to the Birmingham area to pursue a law degree at Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. After receiving her Juris Doctorate degree from Cumberland, she served as the Teen Court and Programs Director at Alabama Center for Law & Civic Education. As the Director of Alabama’s first peer-sentencing court, Noelle was instrumental in helping first-time juvenile offenders learn from their mistakes and develop a positive attitude toward the community. In 2002, Noelle joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and worked in the Corporate Compliance department as the Company’s HIPAA Privacy Officer & Senior Compliance Consultant. In 2009, she joined the Legal Department team as Associate Counsel. After 10 years with Blue Cross and Blues Shield of Alabama she joined Healthfirst Legal Department as Privacy Officer in 2012, and is responsible for ensuring the company’s compliance with the HIPAA Privacy regulations and other state and local regulations related to protecting confidential information. Noelle has been actively involved in various community organizations throughout Birmingham including the Birmingham Urban League, Impact Alabama, and the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation. She is also an active member of the Junior League of Birmingham.

David K. Germany

After graduating from the University of Alabama in May 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration, Mr. Germany went on to join Regions Financial Corporation in their Management Associate Program. He currently serves as a Commercial Banking Underwriter for Regions Bank. Mr. Germany is very active in the Birmingham community, including the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Project Corporate Leadership 2005-06 class, membership in the Birmingham Rotaract Club, and leadership as a Young Business Leader with the United Way of Central Alabama.

Philip Lawton Hodges is a Managing Partner of REDMONT Venture Partners, a private equity firm located in Birmingham, Alabama. He started with the firm in 1997 and focuses on investments in companies within the information technology, financial services, business services, and healthcare sectors. He currently serves as on the Board of Directors for the following portfolio companies: Amercian Legal Search, Entegreat, and Vaxin. His affiliations include: IMPACT Alabama - Board of Directors, Samford University Brock School of Business - Advisory Board, Birmingham Venture Club - Board of Directors, and Leadership Birmingham 2007. Virginia Lolley, M.D.

Dr Virginia Lolley is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at UAB specializing in cataract and refractive surgery and the director of the ophthalmology service at Cooper Green Hospital. She completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina, her medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine, and her ophthalmology residency at UAB. She lives in Birmingham with her husband Joseph Socolof of Partners in Performance Consulting and their daughter Eve.

Mitesh Shah

A native of Decatur, Alabama, Mitesh graduated from Birmingham-Southern College where he served as President of the Student Government Association. He received his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2002 and was a Senior Editor of the Alabama Law Review. Mitesh went on to serve as a law clerk to the Honorable James H. Hancock, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Alabama and is currently an attorney with Maynard Cooper and Gale, P.C. He also serves on the Steering Committee for Youth Leadership Forum Birmingham and is on the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers' Section of the Alabama State Bar.

Pam Slate

Board Member

After receiving degrees in mathematics from Birmingham-Southern College and mechanical engineering from UAB, Ms. Slate graduated cum laude from Cumberland School of Law. While attending Cumberland, she served as Writing Editor for Cumberland Law Review, as a member of the ABA National Trial Team, and as a member of Cumberland’s Honor Court. While practicing law in Birmingham and Montgomery, she has served on the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers Section of the Birmingham Bar and on the Birmingham Bar’s Ethics Committee, and currently serves as a member of the Alabama State Bar’s Disciplinary Rules Committee and as Co-Chair of the 2012 Law Day Committee. She has resided in Montgomery since 2005, and is the managing partner of Slate Carter Comer PLLC. Ms. Slate also serves on the boards of Kid One Transport and Rebuilding Together Central Alabama, is President of the Montgomery Dragon Boat Race & Festival, which benefits RTCA and Bridge Builders Alabama, and is Treasurer of the Montgomery Rowing Club. She has previously also served on the board of Magic City Harvest.

Marjorie Lee White, M.D.

Board Member

Marjorie Lee White serves as an assistant professor at UAB in the School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics, Division of Emergency Medicine. She is also the Associate Medical Director of the Pediatric Simulation Center at Children's of Alabama. She has served on the Medical Staff of The Children's Hospital of Alabama since 2003. Marjorie Lee received an A.B. in history from Princeton University, a Master's degree in Public and Private Management from Birmingham-Southern College, a Master's degree in Elementary Education from UAB, and an M.D. from The University of Alabama School of Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare as well as the Leadership Birmingham Class of 2011-2012.
