Kelly A. Bownes is the President, CEO and founder of MedPlan Recruiting, Inc., a national physician recruiting and medical staff planning firm and principal of a hospitalist staffing and consulting company, MedPlan Locums, LLC. Bownes works as a national recruiter and consultant assisting healthcare systems with recruiting efforts for practice positions and traditional hospitalist and/or outpatient care.
MedPlan has a twenty-five year history of placing physicians in every specialty and subspecialty for hospitals and private practices in every county in the state of Alabama, the Southeast and the nation.
Growing up in a household dedicated to medicine, her father, a doctor, and mother, a nurse, she experienced first-hand the importance of quality health-care. Bownes received her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama. and went on to receive a Masters Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Kelly is active on many civic boards including Development Chair of the Women’s Fund, a component of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham and UAB Center for Aging Board of Advisors, UAB Palliative Care Chairman of the Board, a former President of the Women’s Forum, Women’s Network Board of Directors, and Hand in Paw. She is a graduate of the 2007-2008 Leadership Birmingham program. She is a graduate of the Leadership Alabama class of 2010.
In 2007, she was appointed by Lt. Governor Folsom to the State of Alabama Women’s Health Steering Committee Office of Women’s Health and continues to serve in that position. In 2009, she was appointed to the State of Alabama Rural Health Committee.
The Birmingham Business Journal named her as the Best in Business 2007 Rising Star and one of the Top Birmingham Women in 2008.
In her personal life, Kelly’s interests and accomplishment are as impressive as her business skills. Kelly has been a nationally ranked elite triathelete (biking, swimming, and running). She is a member of Team MedPlan Presented by TriStar Cycling. Bownes serves as a Parishioner of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and volunteers at St. Martin’s in the Pines Retirement Community.
